Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship is a little chilly when Haruka and Michiru show up and some flirtation happens for both of them, but Chibiusa asks them to help her make a clay Holy Grail for school and then pretends to fall asleep so they can make up.
This arc is great for character development. Usagi and Mamoru may be fated lovers, but they have mundane relationship problems, too (the new storyline begins with Usagi being late to meet up with Mamoru and he calls her ‘Usa!’ in frustration and never goes back to ‘Usako,’ the first tension-bringing moment). And I just love Chibiusa here, something I would never say about her anime counterpart. She’s just a clever little kid who doesn’t want to see her parents fighting. So adorable.
